For those who don't know, Bitcoin Pizza Day, celebrated on May 22 each year, commemorates a landmark event in the history of crypto. Laszlo Hanyecz, a Bitcoin miner and developer, once traded 10,000 Bitcoins for two large pizzas from Papa John's back in 2010, setting the record for the first real-world purchase with Bitcoin (though this has been recently contested).
Hanyecz's seemingly casual purchase is revisited each year, reminding everyone of Bitcoin's evolution from a fringe novelty to a valuable asset. Today, given the value of Bitcoin, that transaction would amount to around $268 million.
